Bill Canfield – President
President of Virgin Island Sailing Association for 17 years, and attended multiple ISAF Annual Meetings.
Involved in the sport of Sailing for over 45 years as a participant, official, and administrator.
Serves as a race official doing race committee work for many organizations including New York Yacht Club, Storm Trysail Club, St. Thomas Yacht Club, Chicago Match Racing and Oakcliff Sailing Center.
Regatta Manager for Quantum Key West Race since 2014, also Regatta Director of the Grade 1 Carlos Aguilar Match Race and managed the St. Thomas International Regatta for 14 years.
Julie San Martin – Vice President
Moved to St Croix with her family in 1957, learned to sail in Christiansted Harbor with the St Croix Yacht Club sailing program. Started early in Multihulls, sailing the Caribbean with Dick Newick, her parents, and siblings in the 1960s on the AyAy, a 40’ catamaran. Former Fleet Captain and Commodore of the St Croix Yacht Club, still sailing Multihulls. Regatta organizer, scorekeeper, and race committee member since the late 1980’s. Since 2011, she has administered the annual sailor status qualifications.
Lyn Reid – Treasurer
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Lyn has been a resident of the Virgin Islands for over 40 years. She came to the Virgin Islands to teach at Antilles School.1966 CAC medal winner Rudy Thompson, reintroduced Ms. Reid to Sailing and that became her passion. She has been involved in Sailing Regattas all over the Caribbean as a competitor and organizer. She represented the Virgin Islands in the first two Rolex J-24 Women’s World Championships and has twice served as Commodore of the St. Thomas Yacht Club. She has been instrumental in bringing major Sailing events to the Virgin Islands such as the Nations Cup Match Racing. Ms. Reid began her time with the VIOC as the Team Leader for Sailing at the ’83 Caracas Pan Am Games. She was part of the Sailing delegation attending the ’84 Los Angeles Olympics and in 1988 in Seoul, Korea she was the Sailing Team Leader when Peter Holmberg won a Silver Medal for the Virgin Islands in the Finn competition. She was also the Sailing Delegate for the ’92 Barcelona and ’96 Atlanta Olympics and was Chef de Mission in Sydney in 2000. And London in 2012. She has served on the VIOC Executive Committee as Vice President for St. Thomas and St. John and is presently the Secretary General
Karen Stanton – Secretary
Karen has been involved in the marine industry most of her life. Originally from New Jersey, where she was active in power boating and deep sea fishing. Relocated to St. Croix in 1989 with her family and joined the St. Croix Yacht Club. All three of her boys (Christopher, Peter, and Scott) were active in the Junior Sail Program at the Yacht Club and represented the Virgin Islands in numerous events – Opti Worlds, Sunfish Worlds, J24 Nationals, CAC, and PAN AM Games. Karen was involved in fundraising for the sailing program, served on race committee, and organized numerous regattas. She also served 10 years on the board at the St. Croix Yacht Club, which included 2 years as Fleet Captain and 2 years as Commodore. Karen continues to be involved with the Junior Sailing Program and is one of the organizers of the St. Croix International Regatta. She has been Secretary of VISA since 2008.
